Taipei Anti-Fraud Team – January 2026 (1–3)
1. In December 2025, Taipei City received a total of 1,524 reports of various types of fraud, with a total financial loss of NT$859.054 million. The top three most prevalent fraud methods in terms of both cases and financial loss were as follows: I. Online shopping fraud: 461 cases, financial loss NT$37.157 million. II. Investment fraud: 180 cases, financial loss NT$444.218 million. III. Romance/relationship (investment) fraud: 119 cases, financial loss NT$131.748 million. 2. Fraudsters have recently been using methods such as online shopping scams and “three-party” scams to trick people into transferring money, sometimes resulting in accounts being flagged as suspicious. Victims should be highly vigilant if requested to make urgent transfers, or provide personal bank account or payment information, to avoid falling into a fraud trap. When engaging in online shopping, extra caution is advised: suspiciously low prices are often a scam; verify the account name before making payments. If the payee differs from the recipient or if you are asked to transfer funds to a third party, this may indicate a scam. Please verify carefully and avoid having your account flagged as suspicious.
