E-Cigarettes vs. Heated Tobacco: Know the Difference, Follow the Rules, and Stay Legal (8-10)
E-cigarettes and heated tobacco products may appear similar, but they are fundamentally different. Under Taiwan’s Tobacco Hazards Prevention Act, the manufacture, sale, and use of e-cigarettes and other tobacco-like products are prohibited. Heated tobacco products, on the other hand, are classified as new tobacco products and may only be manufactured, imported, or sold after passing a health risk assessment and receiving regulatory approval. E-cigarettes produce an aerosol by heating liquid e-liquid through an atomizer, and the liquid may contain nicotine. Heated tobacco products, in contrast, use a heating device to heat tobacco sticks made with tobacco materials. As a result, the two types of products differ in their composition, methods of use, and legal status. New and emerging tobacco products can still have harmful effects on health. Know the regulations, understand the differences, and stay away from all tobacco products. Together, we can protect our health.
