Offenders found attempting to smuggle animal or plant products illegally by way of carrying on person or using mail or courier services can be sentenced to imprisonment for a maximum of seven years and fined up to NTD$30 million (1-1)

When bringing animal and plant products into Taiwan, all items shall comply with the Statute for Prevention and Control of Infectious Animal Diseases, as well as the Plant Protection and Quarantine Act. Offenders found attempting to smuggle animal or plant products illegally by way of carrying on person or using mail or courier services can be sentenced to imprisonment for a maximum of seven years and fined up to NTD$30 million.

Between January and December of 2020, Taoyuan International Airport authorities intercepted cases of new immigrants and foreign migrant workers attempting to import prohibited and restricted items, such as bitter beans, mangosteen, kumquat, and meat products via courier services against Taiwan regulations. A total of 184 cases were brought to criminal charges or fines. We would like to remind everyone to avoid purchasing prohibited and restricted items on foreign websites. Be sure to remind your overseas family members not to send animal and plant products to Taiwan to avoid breaking the law unintentionally.
