Q4. What are the channels for high school students to apply for a college?

When students are in the 12th grade, they need to pay attention to four channels – special recommendation, Stars Program, personal application, and admission by examination and placement:
5. Special Recommendation: High school senior students can compile their learning performance records from the 10th and 11th grades during the first semester of their senior year (around November and December), and prepare various documents required by the special recommendation process. Students that pass the initial screening will get a chance for an interview and move onto other selection process.
*** Because the General Scholastic Ability Test is normally conducted in January of the following year, as a result, special recommendation process is the only college admission channel that does not require taking the General Scholastic Ability Test.
6. Stars Program: Only students that place in the top 50% of the school can apply for college via the Stars Program. Students with higher rankings will have better chance getting recommended to college department screenings. The Stars Program takes place in mid-March in the second semester of the senior year.
7. Personal Application: High school students can apply to a college major according to their personal interests and career planning. Students can apply for maximum 6 majors in one application, and the first phase of selection takes place in late-March in the second semester of the senior year. After the first phase selection, students are required to submit their personal learning record, which includes three copies of paper report, diverse performance file, certificate of volunteer service, and an essay on student council and school club leader experience. Then in mid-May, students are required to go through the screening process set up by the colleges.
8. Examination and Placement: Take the Advanced Subjects Test in mid-July in the second semester of the senior year. The placement process will take place at he end of July. This is the last college admission channel.

Q5. Nursing education in Taiwan includes college nursing program, and five-year junior college nursing program, are they considered registered nurses after graduating from the program?

Junior college nursing programs consist of the five-year program and the two-year program. The five-year program enrolls junior high school graduates, and the two-year program enrolls high school and vocational school graduates. After students complete the five-year program and the two-year program, students can continue their education at the two-year technical program for a bachelor’s degree. Four-year technical program enrolls high school and vocational school students, after students graduate from the program, they receive a bachelor’s degree. College nursing education program is a four-year program with internship that starts on students’ sophomore year. After graduating from college nursing program, students will graduate with a bachelor’s degree. Regardless of the program, to be a registered nurse, all students are required to pass national medical health worker certification test.
