The 2023 Taiwan Lantern Festival in Taipei is being held from February 5 to February 19. The Fount of Light Display Zone, located in the Songshan Cultural and Creative Park, is themed around different ethnic cultures, bringing a unique cultural experience to the lantern viewers. This year, the Taipei City Department of Civil Affairs has specially invited artists and new immigrants to collaborate in creating lantern installations. Their works connect different cultures, showcasing the charm and inspiration of new immigrant cultures. It also symbolizes that people of different cultural backgrounds are coming together in Taipei to plant their roots, to grow, and to pass on their heritage.
In addition to the collaborative works that showcase diverse cultures, the Taipei City Government has also created a Multicultural Stage at Warehouse No. 1 in the Songshan Cultural and Creative Park. The organizer invited new immigrant performance groups to bring exotic and exciting performances, showcasing the passion and charm of different ethnic cultures, and inviting the public to come and enjoy them together.
On the opening day of the lantern festival, the Multicultural Stage scheduled up to five performances by new immigrant performance groups, including those from Myanmar, Indonesia, West Africa, a Latin pop band, and the Nnyunfei Dance Group led by renowned dancer Tian Na. Each performance was packed with audiences, attracting many viewers to come and enjoy the show. If you missed the opening performances, be sure to visit the Multicultural Stage for other shows! On February 14, Valentine's Day, from 15:00 to 21:00, the Multicultural Stage will continue to bring an exciting lineup of performances by new immigrant groups! One of the groups is the Southern Rhythm Percussion Group from Malaysia. The group performs with powerful and energetic hand drumming and a multilingual presentation called Celebrating the New Year with Joyful Drums to wish everyone a happy and prosperous year. Following behind, the music group Bengali Folk Song Group from the Indian state of West Bengal, performs traditional Bengali folk songs, symbolizing Bengali urban folklore in Taiwan. Another group called Te Natira'a also uses dance to tell stories about life and culture in Tahiti, connecting with Taiwanese audiences who share the same love for dance. Lastly, the performance ends with Gema Angklung, a band formed by Indonesian new immigrants. By playing the traditional bamboo instrument called the Angklung, Gema Angklung passes on and shares the unique musical culture of Indonesia. The song Love under the Moonlight is played to celebrate Valentine's Day.
Exciting and lively multicultural performances are happening in the Fount of Light Display Zone.
