At that time, due to frequent wars, Emperor Claudius II of Rome wanted to expand the military by requiring young single men to join the army and fight for the country. He even issued a decree forbidding men from marrying. A priest named Valentine defied this order and secretly married couples who wished to wed. When the emperor found out, Valentine was arrested, imprisoned, and eventually executed by hanging on February 14th, 269 AD. In honor of his actions, February 14th was established as a day to commemorate Valentine. Valentine's Day not only honors his commitment to protecting love but also represents the willingness to bravely pursue love.
