Which pets are required to be registered? Are there penalties for failing to register pet dogs and cats?

In Taipei City, it's mandatory to implant a microchip and complete pet registration for

both dogs and cats! Citizens can register their pets at designated registration stations

(such as animal hospitals) authorized by the Animal Protection and Health Inspection

Office. The registration fee at any of these stations is uniformly set at NT$250 for the

microchip implantation procedure.

Failure to comply with the pet registration regulations may result in a fine ranging

from NT$10,000 to NT$50,000 upon discovery. Offenders will be given a deadline to

rectify the situation. Failure to do so may result in continued penalties until

compliance is achieved.
