May 2022 - Malaysia Vesak Day

Vesak is a holiday traditionally observed by the Theravada Buddhists in celebration of Buddha's birth, enlightenment, and death. In Northern Buddhism, this holiday is called Buddha's Birthday.
Buddha was born in May on a day of full moon, 35 years later, he achieved enlightenment under a bodhi tree on a day of full moon. And his death also happened on a day of full moon. Though his birth, enlightenment, and death were not on the same day, but it all happened in May on a day of full moon. Later day Buddhists set the first full moon in May as Vesak festival. Vesak is primarily celebrated by Buddhists in Southeastern and Southern Asian countries, including Sri Lanka, Nepal, Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Bangladesh. Grand festivals are held in these countries every year for this important holiday. In 1950, World Fellowship of Buddhists officially recognized Vesak as an international holiday. In 1999 the United Nations General Assembly adopted resolution 54/115 declaring Vesak as an international public holiday.
