Typhoon and Flood Disaster Preparedness Guidelines

To prepare for the approaching typhoon, pay attention to your home environment and take the following preventive measures:

I. In case you need emergency assistance during a typhoon, you can call 1999, 119, or 110.

II. If you notice clogged sewer drainage, roadside trees that need attention, or other issues, call the Taipei City hotline at 1999 to report the problem.

III. If your residence is in a low-lying area, on a hillside, or if you are working on a riverbank, take precautions against collapses and landslides. Evacuate as soon as possible if necessary.

IV. Prepare a radio, flashlight, first aid kit, drinking water, food, and essential supplies at home in advance.

V. Check the electrical circuits in advance, be cautious with stoves and gas pipelines, and take preventive measures when using stoves to avoid fires.

VI. Inspect and repair all doors and windows at home. Move potted plants indoors, protect flowers and plants with supports, and reinforce other items to prevent them from becoming dangerous projectiles in strong winds.

VII. Inspect and secure construction site fences, scaffolding, billboards, and advertising signs to prevent them from being blown down by strong winds and causing harm.

VIII. If you receive evacuation notices from the Taipei City Government, promptly cooperate with city personnel during evacuation.

IX. During a typhoon, avoid going out unless it is necessary to prevent injuries from falling objects. In the event of a power outage, refrain from using candles. If necessary, take sufficient precautions to prevent fires.

X. To ensure residential safety during heavy rain and typhoon, consider installing an automatic water pump in the basement and adding watertight doors or sandbags at basement entrances.

XI. Do not touch fallen power lines to avoid electric shock. Immediately call 119, 110, or 1999 to notify the power company for repairs.

XII. Prepare a personal emergency supplies kit with essential items that should include:

  • Bottled water
  • Instant noodles, and biscuits
  • Photocopies of your IDs
  • Some cash
  • Essential medications
  • Thick cotton gloves
  • Flashlight
  • Radio
  • Batteries
  • Warm clothing
  • Small blanket
  • Plastic raincoat
  • Hand warmers
  • Tissues
  • Towel
  • Paper and pen
  • Spare keys
  • Swiss Army Knife

Ensure the emergency supplies kit is easily accessible at home or your workplace.
