Certificate of Loss of Previous Nationality Section (4-13)
According to relevant regulations, individuals from Mainland China applying for settlement in Taiwan must submit a notarized certificate of renunciation of previous nationality verified by the Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF) (i.e., the notarized certificate of cancellation of Mainland household registration). If the applicant fails to submit the notarized certificate of renunciation of previous nationality during the settlement application, the Permanent Resident Certificate can be issued upon signing an affidavit. If the applicant does not submit the certificate within 3 months from the day following the approval of the settlement, their settlement permit will be revoked, and the household registration will be canceled by the household registration office. "I need to care for elderly family members and children, and I cannot personally return to Mainland China to cancel my household registration. Can my family in Mainland China handle this for me?" As per Mainland Chinese regulations, the cancellation of household registration typically requires the applicant to return in person. If it is not possible to do so, the applicant or their family should contact the local police station in Mainland China to inquire if the procedure can be handled by a representative. Please ensure that the previous notarized certificate is brought back to Taiwan for verification by SEF. Once the previous notarized certificate is returned to Taiwan, please contact the SEF legal service hotline to confirm the documents required for verification. After verification, submit the certificate to the National Immigration Agency within 3 months to prevent the cancellation of your household registration in Taiwan.
