Taipei City High School Athletic Programs

Taipei City has 22 high school with athletic programs, of which, eighteen are regular high schools and four are vocational high schools. Taipei City’s high school athletic programs focus on sports that are competed in the Olympic Games, Asian Games, the Universiade, and student competitions that are promoted by the government competent authority. School recruitment starts in May, and all middle school graduates can apply for any of the athletic programs. When students are enrolled in an athletic program, schools will provide 8 to 10 professional training courses in the mid-semester, and there are also professional training or off-site training for the students during summer and winter vacation. Every year, athletic program students will have a chance to participate in important competitions such as the National Middle School Athletic Games, and Education Cup. Athletes that performs well in the competitions will greatly help them in entering into universities.
Yangming High School and Zhong Zheng Senior High School athletic programs are used as examples in this article.
 

1. Taipei Municipal Yangming High School

Yangming High School is in Shilin District, Taipei City. The school’s athletic program include tennis, female basketball, baseball, track and field, and weightlifting. Yangming High School has a longstanding tennis team, and is actively working with local elementary schools to provide solid basic training and establish a complete sporting environment. To this date, Taipei Municipal Yangming High School has trained many excellent athletes, and have won many accolade in major competitions including the National Middle School Athletic Games. Under the leadership of coach Li Tai-ying, Yangming High School female basketball team won HBL championship of the 2020 academic year. Yangming High School baseball team trains in the baseball field near Bailing Bridge and have won third place in the 2021 Fubon Cup. Yangming High School track and field team and weightlifting teams also scores well in the National Middle School Athletic Games.

2. Taipei Municipal Zhong Zheng Senior High School

Zhong Zheng Senior High School athletic program is comprised of track and field, fencing, martial arts, soccer, and weightlifting programs. Their athletic program is staffed with coaches qualified to train national teams. The head coach of the fencing, and martial arts programs was an instructor coach for the Taiwan national team in the 2017 Summer Universiade and the 2018 Asian Games. Athletes under his leadership had won countless awards, and he established Zhong Zheng Senior High School as Taipei City’s cradle for athletes and a training base for national team qualified athletes. Zhong Zheng Senior High School offers professional training equipment and facilities, including a IAAF Class 2 certified track and field facility, a standard soccer field, and professional training facilities for fencing, martial arts and weightlifting.
