Cheng Gong Honor Guard Introduction

The Cheng Gong Honor Guard was established in 1978 (the 67th year of the Republic of China). Coach Yan, Zhong-Tang from the Army Honor Guard was invited to oversee training. In the following year, the team was invited to represent high school boys from across the country in the National Day parade. In the subsequent years, the team participated multiple times in the National Day celebrations, marking a golden period for the development of the Honor Guard. During this period, team members were selected based on their excellent physical fitness, and when fully staffed, the team included 114 members, making it one of the most prominent and accomplished student honor guards in Taiwan at that time.

They boast impressive rifle-throwing skills and a variety of unique rifle techniques. In recent years, it has evolved to incorporate more diverse performance content in response to changing times. Besides participating annually in significant events in the honor guard community, such as the Music and Flag Dance Observation and the school anniversary celebration, the team has also joined the Taipei City Government’s National Day performances for two consecutive years, the 2023 Taipei Hakka Carnival parade, and various film shoots.

The Cheng Gong Honor Guard is one of the few student honor guards that conducts a ceremonial guard change. The ceremony was designed collaboratively by Coach Yan, Zhong-Tang and early team members, giving it significant historical value. Training for the honor guard begins at the end of the previous year, with the marching steps being the first major challenge for the members. They must advance slowly while maintaining proper posture and holding the heavy ceremonial rifles, which can be quite a demanding test for novice members. The rifle techniques for the ceremony must pass an examination, and team members are encouraged to develop and choreograph new routines, allowing audiences to enjoy a different style of rifle exchange each year.

The ceremonial guard post is the highest honor in a member's honor guard career. After enduring countless hours of practice under the sun, this performance marks the culmination of two years of dedication. Being able to stand at the ceremonial guard post is a symbol of pride and honor for the team members.

Although this is not an easy club, everyone perseveres for their beliefs and honor, undeterred by hardship, in order to create lasting memories of their youthful and passionate high school days. Being in the honor guard not only helps develop physical fitness, endurance, and a spirit of perseverance but also allows members to forge

strong friendships through shared challenges, creating precious memories of striving together and building their dreams.
