— Club History —

Founded in 1982, the Taipei First Girls High School Dance Club initially focused on folk, modern, and Latin dance. Over the years, the club has evolved, and by its 35th generation, it transitioned to a dance club centered around street, jazz, girl’s hip-hop, and modern dance, which is the style it’s known for today.

The club is currently under the guidance of two instructors. Since the 35th generation, Ms. Hsin-Hui Yu, the leader of the Taiwanese dance group Maniac, has been teaching the fundamentals of jazz and street dance, contributing 18 years to the club. The modern dance instructor role has changed hands several times, and by the 40th generation, it was taken over by Ms. Yen-Ling, the choreography director of the international modern dance group dance.

— Club Introduction and Mission Statement —

Over the past 42 years, the Taipei First Girls High School Dance Club has gone through various adjustments and maintained its dedication, evolving with the times. While embracing the power and energy of jazz and street dance, the club has continued to honor the grace and fluidity of modern dance. Our mission is to create stages that showcase a wide range of dance styles, offering audiences a distinct visual feast. This blend of tradition and innovation is what has defined the Dance Club over the decades. Despite changes in cultural trends, with modern dance no longer being at the forefront, it remains our foundation. We aspire to move our audience through the pure language of movement, which is why we persist in learning modern dance and strive to achieve harmony between it and jazz and street dance.

Every dance, every song, and every costume carries its own story, reflecting the collaborative and determined effort of seven members who step out of their uniforms to create performances that speak to the audience. The results of these performances come from countless discussions and exchanges with our instructors, as well as the painstaking practice sessions we undergo behind the scenes. Our goal is to stand confidently in the spotlight, inspiring others who are also pursuing their dreams, offering sincere encouragement, and conveying genuine emotions. We aim to create a unique and unforgettable experience in our high school journey—this is the ideal that the Dance Club has always pursued.

Event Name: Shin Kong Hot Street Dance Competition

Event Reflection:

This was our first time performing under the name of Taipei First Girls' High School Dance Club. Although there were still many areas where we felt inexperienced, the competition broadened our horizons and helped us set clear goals for our future practice.

Event Name: HDC National High School Dance Competition

Event Date: August 5, 2023

Event Venue: Far Eastern Department Stores Xinyi A13

Event Reflection:

Though we fell short of advancing by just one spot, the experience was extremely valuable and meaningful to us.

Event Name: Eight-School Joint Welcome Dance Party

Organizers: Dance Club Presidents of Eight Schools (Taipei First Girls' High School, Taipei Municipal Jianguo High School, Taipei Municipal Taipei First Girls' High School Affiliated Junior High School, Taipei Municipal Zhongshan Girls High School, Taipei Municipal Chenggong High School, Taipei Municipal Jingmei Girls High School, Taipei Municipal Songshan High School, and The Affiliated High School of National Chengchi University)

Event Date: September 15, 2023

Event Venue: HANASPACE

Event Purpose:

To unite the dance clubs of the eight schools in organizing our own stage, while also promoting and performing for the younger students.

Event Name: Twenty-School Joint Welcome Dance Exhibition

Event Date: November 5, 2023

Event Venue: Yang-Ming University Grand Auditorium

Event Purpose:

To strengthen friendships among the participating dance clubs during the organization of the dance exhibition, exchange and refine techniques in different dance styles, and present unique performances to the younger students.

Event Date: June 1, 2024

Event Venue: New Taipei City Multi-Purpose Auditorium

Event Purpose:

To showcase all that has been learned in the club, presenting a grand and memorable finale for these two years on the most impressive and enriched stage.

— What the Dance Club Means to Us —

From the initial uncertainty when we joined the Dance Club in our first year, through overcoming challenges and dedicated practice, we have grown into senior members and created many memorable stages of our own. The Dance Club is a precious haven for us. Over these two years, we’ve formed friendships with others who share our dreams, offering support and encouragement through both happy and tough times.

The Dance Club is also the grandest stage where we can confidently and freely express ourselves, using each precious performance to document our continuous growth and transformation. High school is a time for trying new things and creating opportunities, and we believe joining the Dance Club was one of the best decisions we've ever made. We treasure the beautiful memories it has given us and hope it continues to inspire and bring happiness to many others, allowing everyone to experience a unique high school life together.
