Preventive childcare

1. Preventive child care services and subsidy schedules for 0~7 –year-old children?
(1) The project is divided into two categories:
◎Physical examination: personal and family medical history inquiry, hearing, eyes and oral examinations, assessment of growth and development and etc.
◎Health education guide: breastfeeding, newborn screening, additive non-staple foods, infant development, oral and vision care, injury prevention and etc.
(2)Total subsidy schedules are seven times:
Including: newborn of 0-2 months, 2-4 months, 4-10 months, 10-18 months, ages of 1.5~2, 2~3 and 3~7.

2.Where will you have the preventive child care services?
A: Contracted medical institutions for children preventive health care (a total of 309 locations). Go to National Health Insurance Administration of Ministry of Health and Welfare / General public / Health care / Inquiry for contracted medical institutions for health care.

3.What information is required for taking preventive child care services?
A: Please remember to bring both of Child Health Handbook and National Health Insurance IC card, parents only need to pay the registration fee.

4. What can Child Health Handbook help you?
A: (1)Periodical health checkup on preventive child care and vaccination – Governments provide free routine preventive health inspections and vaccinations as the schedules and record lists of preventive child care and vaccinations on the Child Health Handbook.
(2)Development of screening indicators (parents’ registrations and health check records of the handbook) For “parents’ registrations”, which are pre-filled by the parents and detect children’s health status on their own, write down the questions you want to consult with doctors as the reference for doctors on inspections. For “health check records”, which are filled by the doctors for children’s health status and guidance.
(3)  Children’s growth chart – Determine by the new version of children’s growth chart (Page 72 in Children Health Handbook, or refer to the page if published differently for the year).  Find the body length/height, weight and head circumference (3 types of growth indicators) in accordance with the gender, months and age of the child.  In general, the growth indicator falling in between the 97 and 3 percentile is considered normal.
(4) Parenting related health education guidance - breastfeeding, childhood nutritional intake and premature resource subsidies and etc.

5.Q: How do I know if the child’s development is slower?
(1) Record a child’s height, weight, head circumference periodically : determine according to the new child growth chart provided by Bureau Health Promotion, Department of Health. (Download from the website of Department of Health or request in medical institutions.)
(2) Observe children’s daily life situations : from the observations by parents and kindergarten staff. Compare with children of same age, if the abnormal situations in action, perception, cognition, language, emotion, adaption and others are discovered. You should seek early evaluation by experts.
(3)Accepting the preventive services for children regularly: aiming to children undre 7 years old, according to their ages, there are 7 health examinations; assisting to understand shildren’s growth condition by health care professionals. Parents could also visit Department of Health, Taipei City Government/Important Service/”Children Development Checklist of Taipei City to conduct online check by themselves. The checking age group of checklist (a total of 13 kinds): 4 months, 6 months, 9 months, 1 year old, 1 year and 3 months old, 1 year and 6 months old, 2 years old, 2 years and 6 months old, 3 years, 3 and half years old, 4  years old, 5 years old, 6 years old). Besides, the parents could also visit “Interactive Website of Screening for Children Development Images” (it offers 6 months, 12months, 18 months and 30 months at present) to conduct the screening for your children.
(4) If your child has an abnormal screening of congenital metabolic disorders (such as congenital hypothyroidism, galactosemia, phenylketonuria and etc.) or high-risk factors or health problems (such as premature birth, low birth weight, congenital diseases, infection during the mother's pregnancy, asphyxia or brain lesions in the birth process and etc.), special attention on children’s growth situations is required. Follow with outpatient check regularly.
