Gema Angklung, a band formed by Indonesian new immigrants, performs using mainly traditional Indonesian instruments. An angklung is a bamboo instrument that can only produce one note. While performing, angklung players must remember the precise note their angklung plays. Great chemistry between performers is essential to producing a melody. All the members of the band are dedicated, finding time to practice in their busy schedules. They even take their children to practice. This gives the kids a chance to learn about their mothers’ native culture. Gema Angklung hopes that their performances can help Taiwanese people better understand Indonesian culture.
